NUCLEAR ASSAULT's DAN LILKER Calls 'Get Thrashed' Documentary 'Mandatory Viewing'
July 18, 2007The makers of "Get Thrashed: The Story Of Thrash Metal" have announced that the New York City premiere of the documentary will be Wednesday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.
The NYC screening will feature appearances by many legendary thrash artists including founding OVERKILL drummer and "Get Thrashed" associate producer Rat Skates, plus members of ANTHRAX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, HADES, WHIPLASH, and DEMOLITION HAMMER. Members of local bands EXIT TO ETERNITY and KRONIN, whose music appear in the film's soundtrack, are also scheduled to attend.
"'Get Thrashed' is a definitive and thorough treatise on the thrash metal movement," said BRUTAL TRUTH/NUCLEAR ASSAULT bassist Danny Lilker. "If you missed out on thrash for whatever reason, this is mandatory viewing, and for all of us that were swept up in the fury of the storm, this will bring back memories of a time when new ground was being broken in metal music and the ante was upped considerably!"
"This screening in NYC is very special for me because it's where I had so many amazing thrash metal experiences — from nearly getting crushed at an OVERKILL show at The Ritz to seeing SLAYER get banned from the Felt Forum to watching the epic Clash of the Titans tour hit Madison Square Garden," said director Rick Ernst. "NYC is the place where my love and obsession for thrash metal came from."
"Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal" traces the rise, fall and impact of thrash metal, an extreme style of heavy metal popularized in the early 1980s by bands like METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and others. It is the story of the heaviest, hardest music of the '80s and early '90s as told by the bands that lived it, the fans and bands that grew up on it and by the artists that carry the "thrash metal" flag today. The documentary throws new light on an overlooked, yet incredible music scene and how it went from a simple rumbling in the underground to a loud, obnoxious and constant roar in the (almost) mainstream.
"Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal" will be screened on Wednesday, July 25 at 8:00 pm at Village East Cinema (181 2nd Avenue at 12th Street, New York, NY 10003). Tickets are $12.00 and can be purchased at www.nyfimvideo.com.
